For 6 months (october 2010 – april 2011) i lived in India, with a grant from the portuguese Fundação Oriente, to document and to learn 2 of their most famous and traditional textile printing/decoration techniques – block printing Ajrakh and Bandhani Tie & Dye. Although my research was conducted around many places, i was majorly based in Bhuj, Kutch, in the Gujarat State. My mentors were the bandhani master Abduljabbar Khatri and the block-printer master Aurangzeb Khatri and with them, i learned the basic principles of their secular arts and got in touch with their familiar, social and religious traditions.

After this time in India, i came back to Portugal and, in partnership with the Orient Museum, in Lisbon, i had the amazing opportunity to exhibit the results of my project and to conduct a conference and 2 workshops with my dear masters and friends – with this initiative, they had the opportunity to travel to Portugal, for the first time and to show and tell their arts to everyone that was interested.
